Tim Ryan wants Nancy Pelosi's job as Democratic House leader. To that end, he predicts that the Democratic Party will be a regional, no national, political party.
It's a great line but not true. A few facts - Hillary Clinton won the national vote by over 1.7 million votes. Trump's election, in my view, was the response of the white male electorate to an African-American President and a woman Presidential candidate. The media gave Trump huge amounts of free coverage, and much of that coverage included his vast array of lies,
That is not to say that there is no work to do for Democrats. The key will be to reconcile the diverse elements of the Party, particularly bringing back the white working class people who fear the other part of the Democratic Coalition - Africn-Americans, Latinos, women and people who live on the East and West Coasts.
Tim Ryan doesn't need to tear the party apart for his own ambition.
